Code of Conduct

Participation in the TechHOUNDS Robotics team is a privilege that carries with it varying degrees of responsibility, recognition, and reward. Participating students represent their school and other members of the student body, and it is their duty to conduct themselves in a manner that is positive for themselves, their families, their school, and community. The following code of conduct rules shall apply at all times throughout the calendar year. These violations will result in discipline which may include suspension or removal from the activity, group, leadership position, or team.

The following Carmel High School code of conduct rules apply to all TechHOUNDS members at all times. Consequences for violations are cumulative, beginning with the 6th grade and ending with graduation from high school. Once a penalty or consequence is served that person is eligible once again for membership on the team for on site activities only. Competition travel and other site activities are at the discretion of team coaches, mentors, and leaders.

1. An act which would otherwise be a felony, misdemeanor, act of delinquency or status offense.

2. Use, consumption, or possession of controlled substances, alcohol, or tobacco products.

3. The use of social media by a student considered to be “unbecoming of a Greyhound”

4. The violation of any school rules

Maximum Penalty: Exclusion from extracurricular/co-curricular activities for 365 days (one calendar year) from the day that the violation is determined. The penalty is to be determined by the principal. Any student arrested or detained as a juvenile on such a charge may be suspended from any participation pending investigation of the incident. This offense may be included toward the three step consequences stated below for a drug, alcohol, or tobacco violation.

I/we understand the policy and guidelines pertaining to the prohibition of hazing and/or dangerous initiation activities. I/we understand that if I am found in violation of the policy I will be subject to the most serious of sanctions, including suspension from the team and school disciplinary actions.

I/we authorize Carmel High School to investigate and obtain information from police agencies, the probation department, or any other source regarding the events leading up to any arrest or filing of charges for an act which would be in violation of any of the rules and regulations as stated in the Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.

In addition to the above Carmel High School Code of conduct rules the following additional Travel Code of Conduct rules will apply to all TechHOUNDS participating in Competition Travel.

1. Prior to attending a competition, all students who wish to attend the competition must turn in their concerned permission slip during the Travel SRT meeting. It is mandatory to attend this meeting if you wish to attend the competition.
2. Provided safety glasses are to be worn at all times in the pits and competition areas. If you forget your glasses you will not be allowed in the pits.
3. Students shall abide by all of the FIRST Competition rules, Location property rules, Hotel rules, and Carmel Clay Student Handbook rules as it relates to conduct during a competition.
4. Students will keep their lead teachers and assigned chaperones informed of their activities and whereabouts at all times. For your safety, you must travel in groups of at least three.
5. Only students, lead teachers, coaches, and adult leaders are allowed in the hotel rooms. Any visitor in your hotel room must first have verbal permission from the lead teachers. Doors remain open during visits.
6. Students cannot be in the hotel rooms of other participants without the consent of their lead teacher and other participant’s lead teacher. See Code of Conduct #3.
7. No TechHOUND student will be in possession and/or consume alcoholic beverages, tobacco and/or illegal drugs at any time during the competition. If this happens, your parents will receive a phone call to make arrangements for your immediate return home at their expense.
8. Students shall not use their own cars to ride in or cars belonging to other participants during the competition, unless accompanied by an authorized adult advisor. You must have the verbal permission of the lead teacher. You are not to leave the competition or Hotel grounds without the consent of the lead teacher or assigned chaperone for any reason regardless of who you are leaving with.
9. Students are not permitted in public dance facilities, bars, or clubs during the competition.
10. Those students who do not comply with coaches’ or adult leaders’ instructions will be taken to the lead teacher and the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
11. Your words represent your character, please be positively professional—no vulgar or profane language is permitted by students, lead teachers, coaches, and adult leaders at ALL TIMES.
12. Students are responsible for their own medications unless parents have contacted the lead teacher or chaperone. Any suspicion of sharing medications will bring immediate disciplinary action.
13. If there is a medical problem on the trip, notify the lead teacher. The parents will be notified after each occurrence.
15. Students shall not throw items off of balconies or out of windows.
16. Remember the 3-Ps: Respect the Purpose! Respect the People! Respect the Property!

Additional Policies for Participating on the Team concerning Pre-Season, Build Season and Competition Meetings:

During any TechHOUNDS meeting, if a student is engaged with any materials not associated with TechHOUNDS(i.e. school homework, video games, etc), a mentor reserves the right to fill out a disciplinary form and to send a student home.
Any time a student refuses to comply with appropriate behavioral guidelines, a mentor reserves the right to fill out a disciplinary form and to send a student home.
There will be no exceptions to any deadlines including but not limited to: team application, code of conducts, sponsorship requirements, travel permission slips, etc. Any student that does not comply with concerning deadlines will be removed from the roster or email list pertaining to said deadlines.

To be considered a member of the team roster, students must attend 6 hours per week of all official build season meetings. To be able to travel to competitions, students must attend 8 hours per week of all official build season meetings.
Students must remain in compliance with all COVID-19 related regulations at all times to protect their safety and that of the team.

To remain on the team roster, all members must attend one Pre-Season event. These will be advertised accordingly during meetings and recap emails and the student is responsible for arranging their own transportation. Questions/Concerns about attending a pre-season event need to be addressed with Coach Griggs before you sign and turn in the code of conduct.
